WASHINGTON (NNS) -- The Naval Historical Center recently announced the “printing” of its first online publication, the 2002 edition of "U.S. Naval History Sources in the United States."
Widely used by military historians and students in professional military training schools, it documents the variety of sources available in the United States for the study of naval history from the Colonial period through Desert Shield/Desert Storm.
The new online guide, which can be found at www.history.navy.mil/sources, is an update of an out-of-date and out-of-print 1979 edition. This version, edited by Wade Wyckoff of the Operational Archives Branch, eliminates the limitations of size and cost associated with a traditional printed volume. Also, being online, it will is easier to update and revise in the future.
“This guide will inform the Navy and the public and will stimulate interest in researching naval history, by disseminating information about what sources are available and where they are can be found,” said Kathy Lloyd, webmaster for the Naval Historical Center.
