SIGONELLA, Sicily (NNS) -- "Tradition" and "excellence," terms synonymous with the Navy, and Patrol Squadron (VP) 10.
The "Red Lancers" of VP-10 recently received recognition from Naval Air Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet, for having more than 29 years of mishap-free aircraft operations.
Preparing for the new challenge of fighting terrorists, VP-10 deployed to Sigonella with a spirited devotion for honor and service, ready to deliver a capable war-fighting platform in support for the 6th Fleet.
While annual deployments are a regular operational requirement for these dedicated VP Sailors, this year each and every member of the VP-10 team gained a greater appreciation for the performance of "routine duties."
Phrases like “superior milestone” and “outstanding performance,” as noted in VP-10's recent recognition, are not taken lightly in naval aviation, where inherent dangers are minimized through extensive training and attention to detail. It takes a team of professionals whose desire for mission accomplishment allows them to carry out their daily and seemingly tedious tasks successfully.
As operations increase and the dynamic environment changes in which VP-10 operates, the challenge of maintaining a mishap-free flight status becomes more difficult. From maintenance to administration, all personnel play a crucial role in the safe execution for each operational evolution.
